5 Ways Getting Organised Will Transform Your Life for the Better

It is no secret that I enjoy organising. In fact, I love tidying and organising so much I’d consider it a hobby, as well as my career.

Most people aren’t quite so convinced that organising is great fun. Instead, they view it as a chore, an unfortunate necessity in adult life. That being said, most people accept - albeit grudgingly! - that being more organised is a good thing.

To help motivate you to organise your home today, here are 5 of my favourite reasons to start organising your home and your life today. You’ll be amazed by the difference just a few simple changes can make!

1. More time

There's a saying that floats around organising communities: each minute spent organising saves an hour in the future. That might be an exaggeration, but there's more than a grain of truth in the idea.

Organising ahead of time can dramatically transform your productivity, freeing up time for the things and people you really love. Let's face it, none of us want to waste time tidying up when we could be spending time having fun. Being more organised helps make tidying up a seriously fast and easy process. When all of your things have a home that is easily accessible, putting things away becomes a breeze.

For example, a simple rearrange of your kitchen cupboards can save you minutes on unloading the dishwasher. Or creating a coffee station with mugs, milk, sugar and coffee machine all in easy reaching distance, can help make your morning routine a snap.

2. Less stress

We've all been there: you have an important appointment but you woke up late and now you can't find your keys. Inevitably those keys will turn up somewhere ridiculous like the fridge, or, even more frustratingly, they will have been in your pocket all the time.

Even if you do manage to make it to your appointment on time, you'll inevitably be more stressed, more snappy and more more irritable by the time you arrive.

3. Less arguments

This follows on directly from number 2. Not only have we all been unable to find our keys, but we have also all heard the frustrating question "where did you see them last?" Is there any response to that question that isn't snappy? If I knew that, would I be looking for them?!?!

My personal experience is that arguments caused by disorganisation are one of the most common reasons for disputes between families or roommates. Save yourself the angst; get organised.

4. More money

Many people assume that getting organised is an expensive process. They envision pricey storage boxes, buying a new diary, downloading apps. You certainly can organise in this way, but there's no rule saying you have to spend money to be a more organised person.

In fact, my personal experience is that getting organised can help save money. Organising your kitchen can help cut down on food waste (kerching!), organising your wardrobe can help cut down on excessive duplicates (kerching!) and organising your finances can dramatically save you money, whether by taking advantage of free trial offers (then being organised enough to cancel them!) or by making the best use of deals and offers.

5. Less waste

Just as organising your kitchen can help save you money, it can also help save the planet. The less food you waste through disorganisation, the more environmentally friendly your lifestyle becomes.

Studies suggest that as much as half of all produce in the United States is thrown away uneaten. That's a shocking amount of food, especially when we consider the energy and effort taken to grow, produce and deliver this food. Cutting back on your food waste will not only save you money, but also help save the planet. Win-win!
